Hold a local "Amazing Race". Entry fee is $25 per person and there can be teams of 2 - 4 players. Send the contestants on a scavenger hunt/task based race around your area. For instance, start with them having to solve a puzzle which will lead to the next clue. Then maybe to the local library to find a certain book and the librarian can give the next clue, then to a local park or wooded area to follow a treasure map to the next clue, or then to a local bowling alley to bowl a strike before they can get the next clue. The prize can be either cash or a donated electronic device like a DVD player or TV or such. We are planning one for May so I don't have a personal account of money raised, but others who have done this had at least 150 people enter which was $3750 minus expenses. Bottom line, it sounds like fun!
