Around the December holidays, put your community in the holiday spirit by throwing a Caroling for Construction campaign. Offer the caroling services of your musically inclined volunteers for holiday events and parties. Volunteer carolers can also go door-to-door in your community and sing for money.
Prep Steps:
1. Organize several volunteer singing groups with at least five singers per group. Singers of all ages can participate.
2. Publicize your event throughout your community and encourage individuals to send a caroling gift to a relative, neighbor, or friend. To do this you must have an organized sign-up and payment program. The fee recommended for this service is $10.
3. Advertise your caroling services for events.
4. Assign volunteers carolers to groups as early as possible to give them some time to rehearse, if necessary.
5. Appoint a leader for each group. This person will make sure their group is informed about rehearsal and event dates, times, and locations.
Materials Needed:
1. Holiday songbooks
2. Volunteer singers.
3. Sign-up forms
4. Posters, flyers, etc.
TIP!: Invite your church, school, or community choir join in.
Helpful Hints:
• If you have a particularly talented group, consider public performances at a shopping center, hotel lobby, or church social for a fee or donations.
• When someone orders a caroling-gram for someone else, bring a card to the recipient with a message from the sender.
STORY! A community senior citizens’ home and children’s hospital “hired out” for this service and received an overwhelming response from their families. As a result, they raised $1,020 during the holiday season!
