Chili Cook Off

Who can resist a steamy and yummy bowl of chili. It can be in a variety of flavors ranging from hot to mild. Some can be made with almost any type of meat or with just veggies! If you are looking for a fun and delicious way to bring in the funds, organizing a chili cook off may be the event for your organization!

Prep Steps
1. Choose a date, recruit volunteers, participants (cooks), and judges for the chili cook off.
2. Secure a location
3. Determine how the cost that each participant will have to pay to enter the cook off and how much spectators will pay for the meal
4. Determine what the prize will be for the Ultimate Chili Cook Off winner
5. Publicize the event (flyers, church bulletins, local newspapers, word of mouth, etc)
6. Set up shop and enjoy!

Materials Needed
1. Tables
2. Chairs
3. Designated area for heating the chili
4. Propane heater/hot plates
5. Paper products (plates, bowls, napkins, spoons, etc.)
6. Beverages
7. Minimal decorations
8. Toppings/sides for the chili (cheese, sour cream, etc.)

Helpful Hints
When planning this event, make sure that the proposed venue is easily accessible. Furthermore, it is essential to the success of the event to check with other local activities before setting a date and securing the location. Also, if your group wants to maximize on the profit from this event, consider selling items, having a raffle/auction or anything that will enhance the experience of this event!

What would your admission charge be? Would you charge the entrants? What about "tasting" charges?

I probably wouldn't do tasting charges, perhaps just the admission charge or just the charge for more than a sample
