Disc Jockey

Local disc jockeys are great entertainment providers for special fundraisers and even on Build Day!

Disc jockeys can donate CDs or concert tickets to be raffled off during Build Day as prizes for volunteers.

Radio promotions for your project are invaluable.

Local note: Jackie Steele, Clear Channel Radio of Midwest Georgia

"In the \KaBOOM! builds we're involved in, we are typically responsible for music and announcements. Having good music just seems to make the work go faster, and really sets the pace for the event. We're also able to use our sound system as a public address system.

"DJs are usually not afraid to roll up their sleeves, either. I've personally grabbed a wrench and started building when we had volunteers cancel at the last minute. We're also able to provide radio publicity ahead of time to get volunteers interested in the project, and after the fact to honor the volunteers' hard work.

"What do we get in return? There's the obvious joy of seeing the kids' faces when they see the finished product. Beyond that, each \KaBOOM! build that we're a part of really helps drive home the point that we're a LOCAL station, truly committed to serving people in our community. This also figures into a requirement that the Federal Communications Commission has for radio stations. Above all, a radio station is required to operate "in the public interest." Playground builds are one of the ways we do this -- the time we spend doing this goes into our Public File, a set of documents that we are required to keep showing how we've operated in the public interest. I might suggest that someone be sure to send a letter to the station thanking them for volunteering their service. We're able to use those letters in our public file as a record of performing community service."
