Dallas Elementary School (in Dallas, GA) challenged their students to raise $8000 for their new playground, to be built tomorrow in partnership with The Home Depot-Dept 21 (lumber). The students succeeded through penny drives, snack sales, and other small fundraisers.
Their reward? The students got to tape their principal, Joel Slater, to a school bus! A Paulding County police officer brought Mr. Slater out in handcuffs--wearing his Build Day t-shirt and a Playworld Systems hat that he picked up at U Play!--and then each of the 640 students got to add a piece of duct tape until Mr. Slater was secured to the bus...then the bus drove away to a crowd of cheering students, teachers, and parents!
What a unique (and almost completely free) way to reward the students for their hard work! The class that raised the most money (a kindergarten class) will be the first students to play on the new playground on Monday. Please see the photo album below (sent to me by a parent on my planning team) for photos of this neat event.
