Garages, Public

Tags:

Visit downtown parking garages and ask whether you can hold a "Swipe for Playgrounds" drive at the lot. Your volunteers can clean car windshields, leaving a note for the driver that reads "We want you to drive safely! Please help us play safely by donating your pocket change to our playground project as you exit the garage! Volunteers can hold canisters at the garage exits during evening rush-hour traffic to catch the cash.

While not all garages can afford to give you a cash donation, they all have a financial whiz that monitors their money! If your organization is relatively new and has just secured its non-profit status, perhaps the accountant or financial officer for a local garage-management company could donate time to help you set up your books.

Ask the garage if their printed receipts can include a message supporting your playground project. If the garage doesn't have the capability to print special messages on its receipts, see if it can distribute index-card sized flyers with each receipt for a week. (Be sure to include a contact person and telephone number on the flyer!)

Sometimes Build Day parking is limited. If your garage is near your site, ask if volunteers can park for free on Build Day!
