"Brandon Ponce, president of the league, said he got the idea to expand an existing field through Major League Baseball's Baseball Tomorrow Fund after visiting the Los Angeles Dodgers' Web site in early 2007.

Ponce said he applied to the program, and the league received a grant for $33,280 in February, which paid for a 30-foot backstop, an outfield fence and dugout benches.

Ponce said the Major League Baseball program, which usually gives money for building new parks, works with the league in a contract with the San Bernardino Parks and Recreation Department to use the field exclusively for baseball."
