Approach your local zoo about supporting a "Zoo for the PlaySpace" fundraiser through which individual donations yield free or discounted
admission to the zoo. For example, let's say zoo admission in your city is $5 for adults and $3 for children.
You could sell "Play Passes" for $5 that benefit your playground project that would allow up to four children
into the zoo for free. The passes would be good only for specific times, as decided by the zoo. The result?
You'd sell plenty of Play Passes and the zoo would still receive paid admission for adults, plus heavier
traffic, great exposure and terrific goodwill.
Zoos often have tons of volunteers, or docents, who lead
tours and handle a variety of assignments. Ask the zoo if it would be willing to introduce your playground
project to its volunteers, giving them an opportunity to support a different kind of project for a day. While
your organization can benefit from these new volunteers, the zoo might benefit from attracting new volunteers
it meets at your playground build.
See if your zoo has a traveling zoo program. If they do, invite them to your proposed playground site on Build
Day for a unique children's activity.
